Cons:

The labels used for training the Whisper model were transcripts from the internet and thus had large levels of noise.
A big drawback for supervised learning models is that they require a lot of human time and ‘labour’ to label the data.
Due to the large size of the dataset, it was unavoidable that it contained a large number of subpar transcripts.
For training the model, each of the audio files was broken into chunks of 30 seconds in duration and sampled at a 16,000 Hz sampling rate.
The model was also trained on segments where there is no speech.
As an additional filtering method, an initial trained model was tested, and then the data sources that generated high WER (word error rate) were inspected, and it was found that these too had poor transcripts that other filtering methods couldn’t identify.
